New Awards Coming Soon

After much thought, I've decided to split up my movie ballots once I finish posting the 1930s. My current ballots will now be considered my alternate Oscars, and my new personal awards will consist of just ten categories: Best Movie, Best Director, Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Production, and Best Cast. So, every year I'll post two different ballots - the Academy's format and my format. Once I post the rest of the 1930s alternate Oscar ballots, I'll start posting my new awards.

(Note: The Oscars are adding a Best Casting category soon, so I'll keep that in my alternate Oscar ballots. I'll also keep the Best Stunts category, with the hope that the Academy will add one in the near future. I might go back and add my Best Animated Feature Film picks as well.)

Here are a few things I'd like to add about my new awards:

-Best Movie will go to the producers AND the director, since I feel the directors of my favorite films of a given year deserve a guaranteed nomination at the very least.

-The solo performance categories can have double nominations in one slot, if I feel they're integral to one another. For instance, my current Best Male Performance winner of 1998 would be Brendan Fraser and Ian McKellen for Gods and Monsters in a joint win over four other nominees.

-Best Music can recognize original scores, soundtracks, or songs. I might decide to recognize a film there on the strength of an original song, as I love that category at the Oscars.

-Best Cast will go to the actors, as it does at SAG and other awards.

-Best Production will reward the entire production team (except for editors, composers, and cinematographers, who have their own categories) on a feature.

I feel like these changes will make my awards fun, while allowing me to post a full Oscar-like ballot, too. Check back for new ballots soon.
